README

gocoin

A blockchain/bitcoin implementation written in Go.

Build Status

Setup

Build and tested in go 1.10

You can check your version with go version. The latest versions of Golang are found on the Go website.

After building the app it will run on port 8000 unless a -p flag is set.

localhost:8000

Flags

-name The name of your node. Optional.

-p Port number on which the node will run. If omitted, the node will run on port 8000. Usage: -p=8001

API calls

There is a Postman collection of the call's.

Transactions

[POST] http://localhost:8000/transaction

Add a new transaction:

{
 "sender": "fad5e7a92f1c43b1523614336a07f98b894bb80fee06b6763b50ab03b597d5f4",
 "recipient": "fad5e7a92f1c43b1523614336a07f98b894bb80fee06b6763b50ab03b597d5f4",
 "message": "An optional message",
 "amount": 5
}

The transaction must have valid hashes for sender and recipient otherwise a 422 is returned with a error message.

Invalid Transaction (Unable to decode)
Invalid Transaction (Sender invalid)
Invalid Transaction (Recipient invalid)
Invalid Transaction (Insufficient Credit)

If the transaction is added the node will distribute the transaction throughout the network.

[GET] http://localhost:8000/transactions/{hash}

Shows all transactions of a wallet with hash {hash}.

[GET] http://localhost:8000/transactions

Servers an array of transaction objects.
Shows all transactions that are not added to the blockchain yet.

[POST] http://localhost:8000/transaction/distributed

Add a new transaction to this node that is distributed by another node:

{
 "sender": "fad5e7a92f1c43b1523614336a07f98b894bb80fee06b6763b50ab03b597d5f4",
 "recipient": "fad5e7a92f1c43b1523614336a07f98b894bb80fee06b6763b50ab03b597d5f4",
 "amount": 1,
 "time": 1234567890,
}
Wallet

[GET] http://localhost:8000/wallet/{hash}

Shows some stats of a wallet identified by hash {hash}, including the credits available.

Blocks

[GET] http://localhost:8000/block
Fetches the last block

Response e.g.

{
    "block": {
        "Index": 3,
        "Timestamp": 1507534014669759993,
        "Transactions": [
            {
                "Sender": "my address",
                "Recipient": "someone else's address",
                "Amount": 5
            },
            {
                "Sender": "0",
                "Recipient": "recipient",
                "Amount": 1
            }
        ],
        "Proof": 27562,
        "PreviousHash": "484dbea2061eb70559cba363897d6c6e63383b233e00fca9a403165a31d5689b"
    },
    "success": true
}

[GET] http://localhost:8000/block/{hash}
Fetches block with matching (string) hash
Response identical to /block.

[GET] http://localhost:8000/block/index/{index}
Fetches block with matching (int) index
Response identical to /block.

[POST] http://localhost:8000/block/distributed A receiver for blocks mined by other nodes. Should contain a (Block) block and a (string) sender. The method is called automatically by other nodes when they mined a block.

Gives a 200 on success or a 409 if a conflict arises.

Chain

[GET] http://localhost:8000/mine
Mine the next block.
Response e.g.

{
    "Block": {
        "Index": 3,

}

[GET] http://localhost:8000/validate
Validate the chain.

{

   "valid": true
}

[GET] http://localhost:8000/chain
Fetch the entire chain.

{
    "chain": [
        {

        }
    ],
    "length": 2,
    "transactions": null
}

[GET] http://localhost:8000/resolve

Resolve conflicts in the chain. The node checks the list of other nodes in the network and replaces it's blockchain if a larger one is found. Responses with true if the chain is replaced, otherwise false.

Network

[GET] http://localhost:8000/node Get a list of nodes

The response exists of a length, representing the total number oof nodes, and a list of all nodes.

{
    "length": 3,
    "list": [
        {
            "Ip": "127.0.0.1",
            "Protocol": "http://",
            "Port": 8000,
            "Name": "node1",
            "Hash": "f1c13a0c8292fa5c9dfe565a19f79c2993619e9b6c5da0669b5c886043224673"
        },
        {
            ...
        }
    ]
}

[POST] http://localhost:8000/node Add a node to the network

The POSTed data should be consistent with a Node.

{
 "ip": "123.456.78.90", // string
 "protocol": "http://", // string
 "port": 8080, // int
 "name": "This is me" // string
}

If successful, the node is added and the response will consist of the node and a total of nodes in the network. {"Node":{"hostname":"localhost","protocol":"http://","port":8003,"name":"Name of the node","hash":"f1c13a0c8292fa5c9dfe565a19f79c2993619e9b6c5da0669b5c886043224673"},"total":3}

The HTTP code is a 200 on success or a 409 if a conflict with current listed nodes arises.

TODO

  • Public/Private key pairs in transactions and/or wallets for proof of ownership.
  • write more tests
  • rules for mining (e.g. minimal number of transactions, a flexible difficulty)

Issues

  • No known issues.
